The Peugeot 206 a Top Seller

The first Peugeot 206 models were launched in 1998 and for the era it was a very modern looking car. The first engines included a number of petrol units which were 1.1 litre, 1.4 litre, and 1.6 litre along with a rather basic and not very powerful 1.9 litre diesel engine. This was later replaced by a much more refined common rail HDi version.

During 1999 a new model 206 was introduce, the GTi. This used a new engine, a 2.0 litre petrol unit that developed 160 bhp though it was modified in 2003 to develop to 180 bhp. This retuned engine and gave the car a top speed of 137 mph along with a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 7.4 seconds.

During 2001 the iconic Peugeot 206 Coupe Cabriolet was launched. This highly innovative car featured a folding metal roof and set a new trend in open top hatchbacks. In the same year Peugeot launched an estate version of the standard hatchback. This was a little larger than the standard car though it had the same wheelbase.

The 206 soon became a top seller wherever it was marketed and in Europe it was the best selling car in three successive years from 2001 to 2003. The model that was the most popular was the 1.4L XR. By mid 2005 over five million 206 models had been sold.

Interestingly a number of 206 models were produced for foreign markets which were never launched in the UK, though they are occasionally seen as imported models. One of these is the 206 SD, a salon car version which was co-designed between Peugeot and Iran Khodro an Iranian car manufacturer. The car has quite attractive lines too.

There is also a Citroen badged model which has slightly different lines than the standard 206 and an off-roader version, the Peugeot 206 Escapade, is available in South America.

If you are looking for a second hand Peugeot 206 or even a Peugeot rcz for sale, there are a great range of used cars to choose from for great prices at online used car retailers.
