Auto-Giants Hitting the World’s Biggest Market

China has become the biggest car market therefore all manufacturers are focusing to capture this market. China is no more a small market for family and cheaper cars only but has become an attraction for luxury and sports brands. The auto shows do provide an opportunity to manufacturers to demonstrate their products to the target market directly. Therefore, the Shanghai auto show, started in 1985, has gained a lot of fame and the 15th Shanghai Auto show which was held from April 21 to April 29, 2013 has brought the top vendors to Shanghai to exhibit their products.

One thing all these manufacturers had to keep in mind was the market they are targeting. Therefore, all types of brands exhibited the products or the concepts specifically customized for China market. The visitors witnessed the international brands engineered for China market but also witnessed the copy of international brands by Chinese manufacturers. After analyzing the details of all models we have listed down the top six cars exhibited in the Shanghai Motor Show 2013;

1 – 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid

Porsche exhibited 2014 Panamera S E-Hybrid. It can be categorized as sports car with thrilling impact but is also purposeful for everyday usage which distinguishes it from other cars of its category.  Its 6 cylinder engine’s maximum power is 333 hp with electric motor of maximum 95 hp and parallel full hybrid max power as 416 hp and. Top speed is up to 270 km/h (75 meters/sec) with in-gear acceleration from 80 -120 km/h 3.4s. Its dry weight is 1710 kg, kerb weight 1810 kg. Layout is rear-wheel drive with Standard 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox and fuel tank capacity is 80 liters.

2- Maserati Ghibli

Maserati exhibited Ghibli, a Sports Luxury Car with everyday usage. Number of cylinders and engine layout are V6 and 60 degree respectively. Engine’s maximum power output is 330 hp (243 kw) with 8 gears automatic transmission. Top speed is up to 263 km/h with 0 to 100 km/h (62MPH) acceleration in 5.6 seconds whereas stopping distance from 100 to 0 is 36. Its dry weight is 1710 kg and kerb weight 1810 kg. The layout is rear-wheel drive and the fuel tank capacity is 80 liters.

3. Buick Riviera

China has been the old market of Buick. This year Shanghai General Motors exhibited Buick Riviera based on the concept of water. The highlight has been the General Motors’ wireless charging technology. With dual-mode wireless plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (W-PHEV) propulsion system that enables the capability of charging the battery wirelessly with charging sensors which really distinguishes it from competitors. It contains V6 diesel engines of 272 hp with top speed of 0 – 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Whereas, the V6 petrol engine with two turbo-chargers  can have 326 hp or 404 hp with 0 – 100 km/h speed in 5.6 and 5 seconds respectively.

4. BMW X4

BMW X4 exhibited in the Shanghai Motor Show 2013 is an addition to the X series. It derives its features from X6 and X3. It is shorter than the X6 but a little wider than X3 whereas the engine is derived from X3.  This design has specifically been created for the China market and is expected to hit the market with its blend of luxury, classic and sport features but is categorized as the sports concept for China market.

5- Icon Vulcano

Taking its origin from Italian design and engineering the Icon exhibited Vulcano specifically created for China market. Categorized as sports car the volcano does actually provide a combination of technology and style.

It does have the options of 950bhp V12 hybrid engine and 870bhp V6 two electric motor engine with the capability of 0 – 62 mph (100km/h) in 3 and 2.9 seconds respectively with the top speed of 217 mph.

6. Renault Alpine A110-50

Renault exhibited Renault Alpine A110. It was actually re-launch of Alpine A110 on the 50th anniversary of Renault. It contains 4 cylinder-engine with top speed up to 220 km/h. The Alpine A110 was actually created as a sports car for amateurs who like thrilling in drive. The Alpine has been a great hit from its creation and has been used in racing. It is a light weight sports car for professionals and amateurs. Its size causes an effort for the drivers to collect and put legs inside the car but then the speed and trill gets started. Sue to its size it is correctly selected for the China market considering the height and body features of the Chinese.

All the manufacturers exhibited their own product with similar or individual features. Some were the new model for China markets or some were the existing models customized for the specific market of China. There the car ranking may vary based on criteria for selection.
