2015 Volkswagen California Prepares for Launch
The order books for the all-new version of the Volkswagen California will open this Monday (August 3rd), the German manufacturer has announced.
Based on the current Volkswagen Transporter, the camper van will be available in the entry-level Beach model — priced from £37,657 up to £41,515 — and also in an Ocean variant, which costs from £47,840 up to a maximum £54,975.
Leading Volkswagen retailer Inchcape Volkswagen is hoping to ease the costs with a California offer which will see the camper van available at just £349 a month plus VAT. Drivers will also receive one free interim service and one free full service. Click here to take advantage of the deal.

The facts and figures
Hiding under the bonnet of each all-new Volkswagen California is a Euro-6 emissions-compliant 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which has resulted in the German manufacturer being able to make the entire range of vehicles more economically friendly and cut the amount of CO2 emissions the camper vans emit.
One key element which differentiates the new California’s engines will be the power they provide to the driver, with outputs being 100bhp, 148bhp and 201bhp. The latter statistic is particularly eye-catching, as it means that this is the most powerful engine that Volkswagen has applied to one of its vans.
Safety is a standout theme when it comes to the technology present inside the all-new Volkswagen California.
The camper van’s Driver Alert system is handy as it will be on the lookout for behaviour that is commonly associated with a driver being tired. Once alerted, the technology will provide a recommendation for the person behind the wheel to take a break.
There’s also a Post-Collision Braking System, which slows the California following an accident to prevent further issues, and Brake Assist technology — a great feature for providing a helping hand in slowing the vehicle down.
Choosing between the Beach and Ocean variants
As mentioned earlier, the next-generation Volkswagen California comes in two guises — the Beach and the Ocean.
Opt for the entry-level Beach and you will be presented with a cabin that is made up of a furniture set that can be converted into spacious sleeping arrangements with ease. There’s also a pop-up elevating roof.
The California Ocean is the replacement for the camper van’s California SE that was a part of the range last generation. This time when people step into the vehicle, they will be met with a full kitchen complete with 42-litre fridge. The roof automatically elevates on this version of the vehicle too.
