Volkswagen Polo 2009Volkswagen Polo has been in the market since 1975. This is a super mini car (B-segment in Europe, Subcompact in North America); larger than a city car but smaller than a small family car. Now, the fifth generation of Polo has also been launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009. For UK, production begins this summer whereas deliveries begin in October this year.

Polo 2009 is being offered in Europe with 3 petrol engine choices; two 1.2 liter three cylinder units producing 60 hp and 70 hp, and a 1.4 liter four producing 85 hp. Also, three variations of 1.6 liter turbo diesel producing 75, 90, or 105 hp are also available. As for the expected options, a 105-hp, 1.2 liter, turbocharged TSI four and a Polo GTI with 170–180 hp from a 1.4 liter TSI will be hitting the market pretty soon.

Quietness and comfort are two if its main features, which will be loved by the consumers. Both of these features allow long distance travel with enhanced level of ease. Regarding the size, Ulrich Hackenberg, VW’s head of R&D said, “We haven’t made this car significantly bigger, but we have changed the proportions and thus gained more shoulder room for a more spacious feel.” Yet, it is advised that the front seat must not be pushed all the way back in order to provide ample leg space to the rear passengers.

The car has achieved five stars in the Euro-NCAP frontal crash test, as well as it boasts 15 percent less side-impact intrusion than the ancestor according to the company. The lower cross beam on the front foot area is not only stronger than before, but the weight has also been cut by half, along with 50% improvement made in intrusion in front foot area in case of a front collision. Price will be around €12,150, and there are already 15,000 there with the company.
