2011 Ford Fiesta
The 2011 Ford Fiesta has got the honor of being the top safety pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and this is the first mini car to achieve this level. This award has been announced for the models that have been developed after July 2010.
Sue Cischke, Ford’s group vice president of sustainability, environment and safety engineering said that “Fiesta is proof that a small car can deliver big safety” and further “Fiesta combines rigidity and more airbags–smartly deployed–than its competition, as well as standard stability control”.
The best thing about this car is that it has got a very nice energy absorbing structure that has been designed to absorb and redirect crash forces away from the occupants sitting inside the car. This model also uses cold- and hot-formed high-strength steel in the body structure that adds rigidity and saving weight.
So the features and capabilities of this minicar have proved itself to reach this level, Ford claims that 55 percent of the car’s body structure uses these high strength steels in the floor, front rails, beams and in the rigid body reinforcement ring.
